A Love Story For the Aged
The bed was strewn with rose petals The heady perfume filled the air Had showered , smothered on body cream Shampooed and blow dried my hair Was wearing the new nightie I hadn’t worn before Am getting quite excited Hmm is that someone at the door Was a policeman standing there Asking me my name Was I on my own His eyes were full of pain Sorry I have to tell you But your man was knocked down today Was on the pedestrian crossing Been to the florist I would say He is in a critical condition We will take you to him now Will have to dress won’t be long Gave a puff to make the candles go Grabbed my phone Took a photo of what he hadn’t seen Was quickly at his bedside I turned a shade of green He looked so ill my man But managed to open his eyes Sorry I messed up the evening I smiled didn’t want to say lies Hey I can show you what you missed love Took a photo just for you He managed to take a quick look But couldn’t manage two My man is in a coma But he knows our love is still strong Smiled when he saw my nightie Cos I still had it on He died knowing that I loved him Was so precious to me That our love has stayed through the ages Still as strong at 73. This was written with my folks in mind, unfortunately Tad died in Jan 2012
