You Built Your House on a Sand Dune By Elton Camp Hurricane Sandy has come and gone Homeowners now will begin to moan The storm came and blew my house away So insurance and FEMA ought to pay These folks seem not to think it odd To describe this as “an act of God” But hold on there a minute, please Who’s to blame for such as these You chose to build on a sand dune Knowing a storm would come soon Oh, but you so love your ocean view It’s agreed, I’d like to live there too But a certain, sensible inner voice Tells me that’d be a foolish choice If I build my house on shifting sand I know full well that it won’t stand So I limit myself to a secure place Where far less danger I will face If you must have your ocean view Help from others you aren’t due
