The Grace of a Forgotten Time
Gazing back at faded memories, through a dreary December Sky; I drift away to a forgotten time, when my heart felt so alive. I frolic in the depths of younger years, atop a mountain of powdery snow; And I skate like the wind across the frozen pond, as the bone-chilling breezes blow. I drink from the icicles as they drip from the eaves, and quench my childhood needs; With laughter I spill from the rickety old sled, and tumble face first in frozen weeds. A tap on my shoulder abruptly bounces me back, and my nurse wheels me away; As she tends to needs I can no longer meet myself, I still smile about this day. I'm lifted to my bed to age another day, with those memories still fresh on my mind; And thank God for the grace of allowing me, to bathe in a moment of a forgotten time. Note: i wrote this one night while working as a security gaurd in a nursing home. A guy named Leo used to come down every night and just stare out thru the big patio window until his nurse came for him. I wrote this thinking this is where he went in his mind.
