The Moon
On the 9th day of October, I paused to think Like a flashback in a play, Browsing through all my days Remembering how and when you came into it Alas, I smiled unconsciously But yes, indeed happily Remembering that tomorrow is your birthday I realized there was a time you were unborn Indeed what darkness did the world know? In the inexcusable absence of the moon For no number of stars would Light the night as bright as the moon. What sadness did the earth see? Like Africans before the adventure of the Europeans The agony of a hungry father waiting for months To receive a mail from his son, a city away The 10th of October, the world smiled Finally darkness did give way for light We then saw the beauty of our land It was the beginning of another era One moon outshining several stars You are the moon, Ebika. A rain is a blessing to everyone It fills the ocean bowls It gives life to the fishes and Hope to the poor farmer Wipes the tears of a groaning man You are the rain, Ebika. As today, you add another year The world awaits you arrival again For in the script of your life You are destined to water the desert of our earth Wipe the faces of the hungry children Of which I know you love them To shelter the homeless To educate the less privilege And in the finals analysis To be celebrated as no woman before you Today I celebrate you even before the world does Cause I have seen what it hasn’t
