Marie
Darkness falling quickly, hurry, must hurry Stumble, run, faster, the kinfolks will worry The swamp comes to life with fading of light One could die, lost here in blackness of night Bull frog croaks thunder through dense cypress trees Hoot owl calls "Whooo's this foool?", I fall to my knees Through the mist, I see moonlit sand of a path Heart pounding, I pray to be free of swamp's wrath Frantically fighting the roots and the muck Deeper and deeper, in quicksand I'm stuck Fear of moving, sinking further down, down Wild, screeching, shrill laughter rings 'round and 'round Ears ring, body frozen, my soul fills with woe I'm trapped in the lair of Marie Laveau Claws extend, intent on my skin to tear She cackles her anger "How dare you tread here!" The fog clears, I open my eyes to see Big, glowing, green eyes looking back at me Marie licks my face with her sandpaper tongue My room is aglow with the light of the sun She purrs in my ear "A new day has begun".
