Bridges Burn
It seems like I’ve seen better things, Still I worry what tomorrow brings. Outside my window a bird still sings, I pause for a second the telephone rings. It sound like it’s a long lost friend. It makes me smile to hear the voice again. I can’t see the beginning from the end. While bridges burn around the bend. I don’t know why but the tables turn. I see what I have and what I yearn I’m still hoping today I’ll learn. I look to see more bridges burn. I look inside but so much is gone, I drift to thoughts of a favorite song. I never dreamed it would last this long, I try to hang on, but am I this strong? I have to find a better way, I drift to thoughts of yesterday. Something’s locked in the words I say, I start to dream of a better day. The day passes as the feeling lingers, I watch as life slips through my fingers. Still once again, life takes another turn, Only to find that more bridges burn. I wonder can this get any better, The rain does fall and I get wetter. Darkness arrives but I see a light, While bridges burn through the night. I lay my head down and go to sleep, The still water has gotten way too deep. I hope that soon the fire goes out, So I can escape these shadows of doubt.
