Father and Son, Figuring Things Out
“Dad, do you believe in God?” “You know what, I am not real sure if I do or not.” “Why?” “Well, it’s a little complicated.” “What’s so complicated about it? It seems pretty simple to me.” “Well, yes, it is simple when you just suppose God is responsible for everything, but once you start learning about science and history and other things … well, it gets complicated.” “Why? Didn’t God make science and history and other things?” “I guess he could have. But, there is more to it than that.” “Like what? If God is God then why do you need everything explained for you?” “Well, there are some people who think there are other explanations for things, that’s all.” “But what if they are wrong?” “Well … they might be.” “Dad?” “Yes.” “If there is no God, then where is Mommy?” “Mommy is in heaven with all the other people we love who have died.” “And, God?” “Yes, and God.” “See Dad, it’s not so complicated.” “No, I guess you are right.”
