Storm
Winds rushing through the sky Whistling, howling with such velocity That animals cringe and babies cry. No place to hide from its animosity. Rain pouring, pelting, out of heavens rushing Dams overflowing from rivers gushing. Water flooding through the roof and door. While the ground outside is a muddied floor. Branches thrashing wildly, trees crashing to the ground. Birds looking for shelter that’s nowhere to be found. Ships are stranded, on rocks they crash While waves pound, and their great hulls bash. Hail bulleting like a machine gun Wounding hundreds as they run. Power lines topple, and snuff out the light. People cower in the dark of the night. The skies are black. There is no dawn, For the sun’s lost it’s life, it’s been stillborn. Roofs blown off, and branches torn, Looks like a war zone in the new day’s morn. A storm may be our foe, but it is still our friend For the water it brings helps our earth to mend. Her winds and her floods might cause havoc and rout. But we would rather have storms than seasons of drought.
