The Revenge of the Fish
The sun shone brightly on a windless day Diamonds sparkled on the sea in the bay. A paradise holiday for me Away from the grind of drudgery Suddenly the water receded, the tide went out Stranded fish lay gasping, flopping about on the beach I strolled barefoot among the fish Wondering which would make a tasty dish Not caring about their feelings or fate Thinking only which would be best on a dinner plate A roar, a massive wave crashing To the shore. Water smashing Whirling, dragging me along. Swirling past hut and tree Tumbling with debris. Back and forth in frothing foam Terrified, alone. Silver fish flashed by With blank stares. Not caring about my fate or fears. Water laden lungs craved for air. Too bruised, too limp to fight I slipped into Death’s night. Who could imagine Fate’s irony? The fish in the sea will now eat me
