Only Tears
A mother’s joy at a babe’s first cry, The crushing grief when a loved one dies, Our happiest times and most unbearable stress Bring on feelings that only tears can express. A mother who’s watching her lone daughter wed, A child who’s abused and his life filled with dread, Life brings good and bad, there’s no knowing what’s next That will spawn feelings that only tears can express. Unbridled love or unbounded fear, The soul’s trepidation when death lingers near, When one’s given their all and has passed all of life’s tests Then the feelings are ones only tears can express. Those people who fail to realize their dreams And the ones who grab life’s golden ring, they all seem To have one thing in common at their worst or their best; They find time brings on feelings only tears can express.
