The Wind Whispers Our Names
You forced us from our lands Killed our warriors and our brides Called us filthy savages Filled the history books with lies We were a powerful nation Lived peacefully from the land Had families that we loved Listened to God's chosen plan You tried to force us out To take what wasn't yours Offered us your friendship But behind the smile hid wars You said we were heathens For God we called another name But no matter what he's called He is God, one in the same You ridiculed our many customs Herded us to reservations like sheep Where we died of disease and starvation For we couldn't even hunt to eat You thought us stupid and ignorant Of book ways this was true But in the ways of humanity We were miles ahead of you We worshipped the sun and moon Trusted in the power above Cared for all God's creatures Treated our own with great love We never killed for sport Only taking what we needed Yet you killed the buffalo stocks Til they were almost depleted So many great tribes we were Now almost wiped from this earth Can you hear us in the wind? For our spirit was our worth Just a filthy red man You watched us while we died The only thing truly red in us Was the blood you spilled from inside You spilled it upon the land Without conscience or regret Years later you tried to hide The fate that we had met Still some of us survived Our blood thinned but still strong We are still on this earth To remind you of your wrongs See the little Indian boy Playing by the wood Does he not have the right To be where his ancestors stood Oh spirits of the sky Protect all that remains Remember us from the past As the wind whispers our names
