Susan B Anthony - a Maverick
A conqueror for women's rights in a time of male dominance A tireless activist, a regarded speaker, a trail blazer for her time She paved the road to equal rights with a steady uphill climb With pen in hand, the "Revolution" brought her prominence A maverick with pen in hand and brazen voice 'til the end! When she spoke, people listened; some did not like her position But this pioneer could not be silenced from her cause Passion running through her veins, she was jailed for breaking laws Yet in the face of opposition, justice and suffrage was her mission A maverick with pen in hand and brazen voice 'til the end! Susan B. Anthony died in 1906 in her 86th year, I am told She worked for women's rights 'til her death; her spirit driven and bold In 1920, the 19th Amendment was passed, women's suffrage the definition Sadly, she did not live to see her most ambitious dream come to fruition A maverick with pen in hand and brazen voice 'til the end! By Rhonda Johnson-Saunders, February 6, 2012 Second Place in Mavericks Contest (Cyndi MacMillan) *Enclosed rhyme ~ I added two couplets at the end and included a refrain (source: Wikipedia.org)
