Manger of Mercy
In a Manger of Mercy A little baby sleeps; Surrounded by angels, Whilst little lambs bleat. A miracle birth so simple For our Savior born a babe The King of all Kings— No palace, His abode. Just a simple manger, All decked out with hay; A Manger of Mercy ‘Twas God’s destined way. Led by a bright star in the East, Wise men came to worship the Messiah. Angels assisted their way— As did the star, much brighter and higher. It wasn’t the Jews Who came to worship this child, But three wise Magi instead Found the babe meek and mild. Lying in a manger, So simple but secure, For his parents couldn’t find an inn; A stable was all they could procure. It was a custom in those days To offer gifts, an act of homage, To princes or those of rank; Profound joy after such a long voyage. In this baby sleeping peacefully They recognized Divinity. Fell down on the ground; Worshiped the Son of The Almighty. As was the custom, they gifted— Gold, frankincense and myrrh. Whilst this worship took place, Baby Jesus failed to stir. Herod requested the wise men To report such a sighting, But they received a dream That failed to be inviting. To hold such a communication With this wicked King, Would have meant the baby’s death, So no message did they bring. Instead they took another route, As instructed by God, Who admonished their faith, Having taken a path no Jew had trod. Joseph dreamt a dream that instructed him To take Mary and flee to Egypt. The safety of this child; The gifts of these wise men equipped. Safe from King Herod Bent on destruction; Of all young male children, Due to his jealousy of induction. This Manger of Mercy was simple, But kept baby Jesus alive; Part of God’s amazing plan For this whole world to survive. In this Manger of Mercy, God made His greatest sacrifice. Offered up His only Son; For none other could suffice. He was crucified on Calvary, That we may be redeemed. In this Manger of Mercy; His Father above to be esteemed.
