This Curio Shoppe of Mine
Ancient replicas of forgotten treasures; How slyly…….. you pass them off. Only a penny, only a penny, you say. For only a penny you can buy my secrets, My lost dreams and other such oddities. For a penny you can have a loved newborn’s last breath; You can take the warm blood, right as it is pumped out of my struggling heart. We trade, sell, and steal in this Curio Shoppe; A lover’s last memory of happiness, Laughing walk hand in hand to read the mail Only to learn he would be sent to another man’s war to fight and die in seven days. A motherless child’s last innocent laugh. A junkie under the bridge’s story of the family, the job he swears he once had. We trade, sell, and steal in such oddities, This Curio Shoppe of mine. Each passerby enters laden with the weight of life, And leaves much lighter- For we bought their once happy memories that had long since become agony. The diamond rings, and life-long sought out collections worth a fortune; They were no longer too proud, and considered themselves lucky for the penny. Each time one leaves, the lighter they become. Until one day they notice as they lie abed, That abed they are not; instead inches above, afloat. Withering away, emptying themselves of all that weighs them to this now sorrowful world. A day like no other; the empty and sad customers’ eyes came and went. Then those angry eyes walked in, crazed by his guilty grief. So he took his glass jugs, all full of coins saved over their lifetime, And stumbled into the Nefarious Shoppe of mine. I’ll take it all, he said. I’ll take on each stranger’s burden, If only you will show we where my love whose heart I broke has floated away to. I will carry the weight of a thousand people’s agony; I will be dragged down into hell- The devil would never let such a treasure trove of sorrow go. I will fall off the cliffs to a fiery death, I will take any consequence of my many purchases you advise me against. I will, if u will just tell me where my true love has risen to, I will descend to where I belong for deeds done to my true love. If only to know that she now floats free.
