A Thanksgiving Parable
The Lord who lives in heaven sent down to earth one day Two groups of His bright angels to hear His people pray. He sent them each with baskets to gather from the prayers The petitions and the thank you’s from every Christian there. One group would gather thank you’s, the other what was asked; That seemed a fair division, and so began the task. The angels with the baskets of thank you’s soon returned, And God was disappointed with what the angels learned. The baskets were so empty, and it took so little time For that great group of angels the thank you’s all to find. The angels with these baskets then waited patiently For the other group of angels still gathering fervently. The minutes turned to hours, the hours grew to days; At last that group of angels came from their busy ways. “Why were you gone so long there?” the question then was asked, “Are these all the petitions? Are you finished with the task?” “Oh, no!” the other angels all said in their replies, “We need some bigger baskets; these are too small in size! Our job is far from over, it seems folks there below Are so busy with petitions as everywhere they go.” So God was disappointed that day on heaven’s banks Because folks were busy asking and rarely giving thanks. He’s done so many wonders for people through the days, But we don’t think to thank Him or give Him any praise. We take things so for granted, like we deserve them all, And God should be there ready for each thing when we call. Oh, let us be more grateful for all the things He does, And let’s not fail to thank Him for all these things because Some day He may get weary o’er our ungratefulness And withhold all His wonders He with our lives has blessed. For every thing we ask for that He a “yes” replies Let’s be sure that we offer a “thank you” to the skies!
