Hollywood Beach Gulls
HOLLYWOOD BEACH GULLS Regrettably the sun was setting low on wings of gulls all red and fiery eyed they plucked the popcorn from our waiting hand as if we had a dream to give to them or sang a song they might have understood. There in their shrilled descent they had such grace my heart lept to an all time vibrant shrill and wondered just how far their wings could fly if only words of love could let us soar. But words of love are only past regrets of humping on the beach for me and you after the gulls have found their nesting place and making it on their own. Will I die another death without the touch of you? That bastard seagull. Wasn't he the shame of Hollywood Beach that sunny afternoon we met and we made love for real? Not in St Johns where I lived a mile from you But in Hollywood Beach where a drunk can be a drunk but in goodf company But we were just too drunk to remember, like everyone else on the beach all of us down from the great St Johns Blizzard, doing what Canadians do best staying drunk long enough to forget it all when we got back home. But in St Johns, we had the bitter cold as an excuse for being drunk all of the time. On Hollywood Beach, the gulls all knew We didn't need an excuse, we just did it.
