The Light
I walked into my garden And saw a strange bright light Descending from the heavens Within the dead of night As I moved,it moved with me To the left and to the right. I sought to determine where it came from To find its wondrous source But my eyes could not behold it It was such a hallowed force Gently it enticed me To pursue it on its course. I followed where it led me And spied the earth below As I was lifted to the heavens My mind began to know I was leaving life behind me It was my time to go. Selfishly I joined it Went on my joyful way Trancelike, continued blithely I did not want to stay I felt his countenance upon me His great glory all array. Then in folly I looked behind me And guilt began to reign As I glimpsed my sleeping babies I could not feign the pain Of that innocence so appealing I would never feel again. In consternation he stood waiting As he beckoned me to his side But my anguish I could not desist with No matter how I tried The sorrow filled my soul now I could not go inside. His angel held his arms wide To embrace me, tempt me in So peaceful and alluring To be at one with him But as hard as it was for me I could not go within. No, I pleaded loudly My Lord I can not stay with you My work on Earths unfinished Of this I'm sure you knew He smiled, light fading gently His tolerance so true. My body it was shaking Sweat ran my tortured brow I smiled with eyes half open He said"Your home now" Thank God I weakly whispered As I meekly made this vow..............................To always walk within his light.
