A Hurricane Approaches
A Hurricane on the Way By Elton Camp The big storm has been given the name Irene For the east coast, it’s the worst I’ve seen The authorities insist that we should get out But what I will do is still very much in doubt Such a storm has never threatened us before And I hope it will never come here anymore Probably I should evacuate as they now direct But I want to stay and my property to protect And it would be a somewhat costly little trip So far enough out of harm’s way I could slip But actually it is quite alarming it does sound So it might be a huge mistake if I stay around I might have to go days without electric power And my food would ruin and my milk go sour Even the water flow might also come to stop And maybe I couldn’t get more, not even a drop Soon, the subway and city buses won’t run And trying to drive out will sure be no fun The apprehension is almost more than I can take It’s a whole lot worse than last week’s earthquake I look at the television and see a scary sight So I cower in fear and my fingernails do bite Irene, won’t you please go some other way So that in the Big Apple I may safely stay
