A Life Worth Saving
I know I’m small, and weak as well, But I’m a fighter, my Mommy can tell. She holds my hand and strokes my hair, And my heart rate shows her that I know she’s there. Though my eyes are still shut and I’m too frail to cry, Don’t give up on me yet! Don’t I deserve to try? I may be tiny, no bigger than your hand But I’m still a person, don’t you understand? I can feel touch and I can hear sound, And my heartbeat increases when Mommy’s around. My skin is transparent and purplish-red, And I’m covered in tubes, closed up in this bed. I’m trying my best to be healthy and strong Don’t say that I can’t, and to save me is wrong. Don’t say I’m too fragile, my life won’t be average, Don’t debate my life over financial baggage. Won’t you stand up beside me, and go with your heart? Be a voice for me and others with such a cruel start. We can’t help ourselves, we can’t make a stand, We can’t help save our lives, but you can. Don’t avoid my request and leave it up to another, It could have been you in the shoes of my mother. She did nothing wrong, she kept me safe and sound And still, premature birth turned our lives upside-down.
