The Eyes of a Rich Man
Walking down the street The eyes of a man watching me Something about him I have never liked Possibly the last person I want to see Many times exchanging insults Without a single word being said His smug face and the latest fashion For this society he was bred Could he really be thinking That he can buy exemption With the flash of his polished look And no thoughts of his soul’s redemption? A world designed to enlighten And to teach us the meaning of justice His eyes fixed directly upon me No doubt he loves his status But is that a crack of doubt I see in the green of his eyes? Perhaps I have rushed to judgment And possibly he is my ally? Both strangers stop to look Do we have the courage to question? In my heart I feel the faintest hope As I turn from the shop window’s reflection
