Taking a Ride
All my life I’ve failed at relationships I feel stuck in the most confusing fog But even I can’t seem to ruin The love between a boy and his dog She looks at me with total trust As I nuzzle her on her forehead Then she lays her head back on my chest Even after she’s already been fed She then hears the leash rattle That means it’s something exciting Do we really get to take a car ride? As her tail is furiously wagging For her it is a joyous occasion Taking a ride is an awesome treat How could this ever get old? Because there’s so much to see The vet has been waiting for us Up on the table she goes My tears are now freely flowing While her tumor continues to grow “Are we doing the right thing?” I ask grasping for comfort “You can be assured we are We can’t allow her to suffer” Preparing to administer the shot She tenderly licks my face Soon her eyes become hollow In my arms she fades away Then she opens her eyes Her spirit so excited to see On the other side my father awaits Loving this dog as much as me Into his arms she leaps He strokes and kisses her face Now they await mother and me While they lovingly and tenderly play For Pebbles, the Bissett family pet who entered the spirit realm on Saturday March 19th, 2011
