Transformations
I wish I was the wind For she is lighter than feathers And never has to worry About gaining even an ounce From the load she carries With a whisper from her lips She dances, lithe and lean Through the stale space she fills Strong, though she seems To be nothing She can also be everything Nowhere and everywhere I wish I was that beautiful Then again, think of fire As he burns into the night Destroying all that’s in his path Cackling with delight Destructive and reckless Is what he makes out to be But no matter how much he consumes He’s feeling thin and free Fire does not judge himself Based upon his size Instead of facing ridicule They scream as he walks by They step aside as he creeps up And watch the man at work Never from any human being Have I gained that respect If I became the rain I could flow forevermore The face of sorrow and of pain Of that I could be sure I’d be the thing you’d believe in If you think the sky can cry I’d wash you clean When you walk through me Just to see if you’re alive Rain is not the one to lean on If you’re sobbing from goodbyes But she’ll still reach for you Because she can sympathize I never thought about how good The elements can have it They’ve never had to starve themselves Then try to kick the habit This makes me green with envy Though try I might to hide it If I was wind, rain, or fire I’d never have to diet
