Soon Enough
I hoped we’d be together, I longed to get my wish. I thought I had the answers, But my heart belonged with his. Years have passed me slowly, Malicious in their gait. The end was never certain, But we carried on with faith. Our timing left us wanting, Plans were left askew. We never lacked the motive, But the will to see it through. Mistakes are more than common, They leave us with regrets. Intent no longer matters, But the mess you leave instead. The Greeks believe in soul mates, Friend and lover too. I believe their closest, In what words can fail to do. Smiles became more frequent, The care I had- It grew. Your jokes and all your antics, Are the traits that make it you. Remember when you sang for me? You used to take requests… When laughter overwhelmed me, And our banter at it’s best. But like all great disasters, And tales told from our youth, The long and lasting romance, And the pain that would ensue… I pushed against my feelings, I tried to free my strings. Scared of my emotions And the eagerness they bring. They say that life continues, Don’t dwell on what was lost. But sometimes choice deserts me, And I’m left to bare the cost. Sometimes holes get bigger, Who say’s they have to heal? My love for you is painful, But at least I know it’s real. I still believe that someday… My mistake will pass me by. Forgive me of my failures, And return to me what’s mine. If something that is sacred, Something meant to be… I know that soon enough, You’ll be laying next to me.
