Known Stranger
In the park, that day, it rained, pungent grass filled the air, finding dry bench was a wrench, wet and empty they drew no fare Assuming presence on dry seat was a man, tired, taut and bent, well clad was he and prim as can be wearing garb of a familiar scent Nonchalant, I sped my pace. curiosity became my lure, when turning head to bid 'hello,' the stranger was no more Lucky was I to find this bench to rest weary feet, when oddly returned, this stranger did say, 'It's time that we should meet I know you well from crib to man, e'en through your marriage vows, and so I ask with hope in mind, can you see me now? Carefully listen, I beg of you, my path is the same you trod, alas, when destiny decided so, in loneliness, I too plod Where I sit, the seat is unseen, I oft watch the world stroll by, no one can see the one that is me, only you, fate cannot belie.' By now, I knew why tears did fall, and truth did light the dawn, I turned to thank my friend anew, once more, the man was gone Drawn, I was, to an after rain puddle, not my image in that mirror did linger, there again, with nod and wink smiled back my own known stranger
