Me Wan See
Oh, the wonders of China Far different than those of Carolina. "Me Wan See", I say to you Land of the Orient, so vast and true. Wonders that that land must hold Are now for the brave and for the bold. From Beijing to Guonghzou to Shanghai town Things to see, places to "get down". The foods so rich with a different flair Their sweet aromas fill the air. So many other things to do See the Great Wall, Xian, and Lhassa, too. Visit the tomb of Sun Yet Sen A father figure to his countrymen. Land so big, so beautiful, and treasures stored The land from which came the Mongol horde. Its history is long respected and replete With names given to both victory and defeat. Like Kublai Khan, Ghengis Khan, Attila the Hun Warriors all ... second to none. There were poets, artists, and philosophers too Which made the West pay attention anew. From the earliest contacts o'er land and sea, To the wondrous excitement Marco Polo brought back to Italy. The tea trade, jasmine, ginger, and precious jade Ships and men risked lives for their fortunes to be made. "Me Do See" once so long ago Life has changed there ... this I know. With population at a billion and growing yet I remember the bicycles ... who could forget? I understand scooters are now the mode For transport to and from one's abode. "Oh See How" I want to know Oriental wonders with temples aglow. The biggest change is in their attitude toward the world A chance for its people, its mysteries unfurled. "One Can Do" if there be time To even sit and write a rhyme. For China is a different place Different customs, culture, and different race. "Now I Say" to all of you It's more than the land, but the people too. They are taking a place on the world stage History only their success will gauge. They have problems as all people do With the ability to work themselves out of them, too. "I Wan See" this land again Though I be an American. I had a Mother-in-Law who came from there A gentle woman, who would always care. It was her culture that taught her this Not the greed that engulfs so many of us. "Like See Soon" would be my request My time may be short, little to invest. So I have written about this land far away Remembering in verse in my own special way. I hope that I have also given you a key So that someday you may want to say, "Me Wan See". China
