Street Kid
A litter girl sits, she's watching the crowd, they all pass her by voices gathered quite loud. She stares at faces, wondering who they are how they live but they are distant, far. She set herself apart and forgot how to get back in and once all those vacancy signs now are lit "not open". She muses on the passing crowd no one seems to see her stare she tries to introduce herself but so busy, they pass on without care. The little girl watches city lights light the way grown dark she wonders how to get those streetlights to burn inside of her heart. She wore her street rag clothing shed found in the alley way she remembered the park from the morning where she and another woman's child had played. When did she get here? But no one it seems is asking she has become a piece of the street scenery something the city is masking for these important people cannot be bothered with street kids. So they turn their head away who they are it seems forbids them from caring about her. The little girl stands alone people bustle by, never asking "Little girl shouldn't you get on home?"
