The Execution of Timothy Mc Veigh
I have so many thoughts So many feelings They want to spill out and drip down the page Tears well up as I watch the morning coverage of the execution. Our President speaks: “We have carried out the severest sentence for the greatest of crimes.” Some are rejoicing. The monster is dead. The pungent aroma of hatred and bitterness can be tasted. I am overwhelmed by sorrow I cry for all the little children who lost their lives. I cry for all who lost loved ones. I cry for a young man who lost his way. I cry for his parents who lost a son. I cry for myself- for the loss of my faith, a simple faith in the traditional God. So …where do we go from here? I guess it’s up to us. I hear a faint melody coming from the center of my soul. I can’t make it out, but It sounds like Hope. 6/11/2001
