Open-Mic Pt 1
The fallen star emerges walking through the Cafe Latte door./ This place is more than a coffee shop, it has a poets lounge and a bookstore!/ The fallen star enters the poets lounge and takes a seat./ Everytime the cafe's entrance opens, you can feel the chill from the street./ The fallen star relaxes in a plush chair sipping his coffee; he likes it black./ So many nights to prepare, he's become an insomniac!/ It's open mic and a poet is on the small stage reciting her piece./ She's talking about "love" and a "spiritual release."/ Her sultry voice and mesmerizing rhythm has the room very attentive and silent./ Each punctuation, each pause is meant to be comanding and violent!/ She mentions her soul being like a wilted rose./ Her voice softens into a whisper as her poem comes to a close./ There is a gentle round of applause as she steps from the microphone./ She sits down at a nearby table alone./ The fallen star rises from his seat, his heart is hammering in his chest./ He hopes no one can hear his thunderous heartbeat as he metamorphases into a man possessed!/ The fallen star takes the mini stage and adjusts the microphone./ He feels a nervous sickness like he's never known./ He wonders what's wrong with him./ But he knows it's being on this stage in front of all them./ His eyes close and he takes a deep breath counting to three./ A mask of disquise leaving this reality!/ Looking at the previous poet in her eyes, he nods his head./ In his mind the sun begins to rise, and he continues on ahead./ He finds his voice; that internal release./ Thus he begins his masterpiece: *Written specifically for Gareth James contest "Leave Me Hanging"
