The Kite
spring day, window down, cool breeze blows through my hair i come upon an old stomping ground, an abandon chicken coop, i turn off the engine; the smell of the almond blossoms brings back memories high school parties, this was our place of refuge i can picture the faces, all the different clicks. i wonder where they all have gone. who is living where? who is doing what? what ever happened to you know who? why am i still here? where did i go wrong? IS HE REAL? IS HE LISTENING? MY FAITH IS DIMINISHING... off in the distance a familiar sound catches my ear, hand over my brow i gaze into the sun A KITE, i follow the string to a young lad, no more than 10 or so our eyes connect and he waives me over "Mr. give it a try" he says with a look of innocence on his face as i take the reigns i am overcome with adolescence my earlier thoughts subsided soaring high, twisting and turning, we run side by side, laughing, trying to keep up.. suddenly, a calm brushes over the sky, the wind dies, and our fun plummets to the ground as we make our way over to the kite i can see that this would to be its last flight filled with guilt i turn to apologize to my bewilderment i am alone nylon scattered, from the crash back to earth i pick through the pieces i notice that the bamboo cross like frame however is still intact on the base of it is a small rainbow insignia that reads "IN ALL SHAPES AND SIZES' i walk back to the car, and as i head back into town in my rear view mirror i again see the kite soaring i realize then that i still have questions but my faith is now restored
