Old Habits
Sitting here at the table Frustration and the bottle flowing through my veins I tried to interpret all the confusion Yet I was led back here again I’ll take one more glass of whiskey It has worked many times before It helps build that warm fire inside me Right after I head on out the door So I’m back to my old habits again Like getting a call from a long lost friend That’s when I always pet the monkey on my back Then walked out the door and fell through the cracks I’m going to figure it out so please cut me some slack It may take a little while before I can get back Sorry to say I have to refuse your help I can see I’m sinking in quicksand It’s something I have to negotiate myself I’ll say you have always been a true friend There’s a theater of demons I need to understand I’ve carried them for so long they have to be released That’s why I can’t take anyone’s help I‘ve got to figure out the things that they’ve wanted from me So it’s time for me to go my friend The bottle is empty in my right hand Don’t worry I have had my fill and won’t make any sound Wait till you see me next time I come around
