Parents - No Relation
I hate being told that it’s not alright When all I want to do is play. There’s no way they can relate to me When all I hear is, “Well, in my day…” To hang out means meet with friends And peers to talk of important things. Topics like drugs, or sex, or getting hurt, Are as important to us as your wedding rings. I’m not heading into trouble, or joining a gang, If I tattoo my arm and pierce my nose. Gangs and their violence are not what I seek, I’ve better role models than those. But don’t be so harsh on the rare occasion When I might want to experiment. From what you’ve told me it was much worse for you When you were in that environment. We live in a day when we hurt all the time And maybe “Back in the day”, you did, too. But we want you to handle us a certain way And try to see our point of view. Please don’t judge us on our music, clothes, or quirky twists Those are not the anthem we seek. At times we don’t know what it is ourselves, But we just want you to listen, when we want to speak.
