New England Memories
My mind twist like a darkened stair, leading to a hallway where, By candle light you can see, Every door leads to a memory, Through the first door you might see, Blue lights upon a Christmas tree, Outside windows falling snow, Sparkling with the softest glow, Decorations on green branches hung, Presents opened, carols sung, Smiles filled my dear ones faces, No gold nor silver could replace this, The next door brings the warmth of Spring, With muddy roads and birds that sing, Maple trees with buckets that hold, The sap that makes New England Gold, Friends gather round to watch it boil, Such fun was always worth the toil, A bit of Heaven you got to taste, Never a drop here went to waste, The next door brings you summers breeze, Blowing gently through the trees, There was laughter and games on a sweet summer eve, If I could go back in time I would never leave, The smell so sweet of bales of hay, Seemed to fill up every day, We would hay until the suns last light, And continue on into the night, The last door holds me like no other, With falling leaves and walks with Mother, The echoes of words I can barely recall, I only wish now to remember them all, There were frosty white pumpkins, Halloween candy to eat, But Thanksgiving with family was more of a treat, The smiles, laughter, joy and tears, Make all the memories of those happy years, And all these memories are to me, A lovely sad sweet melody, That played through all those golden years, And plays now by my falling tears, The seasons changed and years went by, Just like clouds sail across the sky, And now my memories turn to dreams, Or perhaps thats only how it seems, If I could have one wish I would, Go back to my childhood, And open again every door, To live it all over just once more
