Whose Mother's Son Is This?
"HERE RESTS IN HONORED GLORY AN AMERICAN SOLDIER KNOWN BUT TO GOD" This plaintive phrase is etched upon the hallowed tomb's facade. Therein lies a gallant hero, a grieving Mother's son. Who is this brave young man who rests with laurels won? Little is known about him, except that he died in strife, To rid the world of villainy and uphold our way of life. Who is this valiant warrior whom we honor and respect? Whose Mother's precious son is this?, we will ever reflect. Here lies a patriot who placed national destiny above his own. For the folly of man, he shed his precious blood to atone. God only knows the anonymous, mournful Mother's name., Whose unknown son died to keep alive our freedom's flame! He awaits that glorious day when he will shed his funereal pall, To answer the call of the roll at Gabriel's triumphant call! God will recognize the lad and place upon his brow a crown, Saying, "Welcome home son, you served your nation with renown!" At day's end when "Taps" echoes beyond Arlington's rolling plain, May we remember that he and his comrades did not die in vain. Who is this valiant warrior whom we honor and respect? Whose Mother's precious son is this?, we will ever reflect. Robert L. Hinshaw, CMSgt, USAF, Retired (© All Rights Reserved)
