Don'T You Rain Me Down! [not Tonight]
Oh, the moon come up and the water rise, and the tide, it bowled in the bold moonlight. And the clouds in the sky sang, “my, it’s time”, But the rain said “Nil, not tonight”. Now the clouds in the sky were not takin’ kind, and replied, “we’re full, and the drops must fly”. But the rain cried, “two loves are outside, and we can’t dampen hearts, not tonight”. "Storm, don’t you rain me down! Don’t you, don’t you rain me down! Won’t ya wait, for the light of day, to rain, to rain me down”?" See the love outside right there in the grass, a wee little lad with a wee pretty lass. Though the lightning flashed and the thunder clapped, the rain it stayed, held fast. Oh, the good Lord come, a showing his face, he asked of the storm what made the delay. And the rain stood up and stood upright, “there will be no rain, not tonight”. "Lord, don’t you rain me down! Don’t you, don’t you rain me down! Won’t ya wait, for the light of day, to rain, to rain me down”?" Here the good Lord said; "well the Earth is dry, and you do no good stayin’ up in the sky. I'm positive that the loves won’t cry, if you were to visit tonight". So the rain it fell and the loves got wet, they held out their hands and the rain held its breath. The clouds looked down wonderin’ what would happen next… -and the loves they embraced harder yet. The lad said “my lass, I’ve been waiting to ask, for an evening storm like the first one we had. And the rain has finally fallen tonight, so, my lady, will you be my wife?” -And from that day on, the rain said; "Go, and rain me down! Won’t you, won’t you rain me down? Don’t ya wait, for the light of day, to rain, to rain me down”!"
