Awakening
Walking along the old, crumbled stone that shatters beneath my feet I pause to gaze at the hummingbird that has stopped to flutter above the rainbowed wildflowers That the morning dew has glistened on, Giving them just enough of a drink to refresh them Before the blazing sun shines down to wither their petaled bodies Small animals hurriedly scurry out of my sight A nature-made wooden bench Smoothed from weather-ware catches my heavy eyes I stop to rest my aching feet Still gazing at the peacefulness that surrounds me I am lost to this world As if it were only a dream I awaken to nightfall My eyes adjusting to my surroundings A small amount of fear wells up into my throat I run, deeper into the woods Each step that I take upon the beaten, narrowed path Snaps twigs beneath my feet Trying to grip my legs Almost tripping me As the moon smiles down With its full, fat face I look at all the beauty And I feel...so out of place
