Unbridgeable Chasm
I cannot count the physical bridges that I have crossed, but there are two that I have crossed repeatedly over a period of 40 years. My two most crossed bridges are The Golden Gate Bridge and The Sf/Oak Bay Bridge. I see an age-old separation of rich man and a poor man. Perhaps they represent one of many unbridgeable chasms. Jesus said that we would have the poor among us always. I see low levels of hundreds and thousands of dollars that are separated by high levels of millions and billions of dollars. I once saw a cat on the ground and a squirrel up a tree in a standoff. The cat on the ground could not climb the tree to fight the squirrel. The squirrel in the tree refused to come down to confront the cat. Capitalism and communism represent another chasm. I remember a period in my youth growing up afraid. That ideological chasm introduced me to four fearful words. "We will bury you". Although the fear is gone, the chasm still remains. Like the cat and squirrel, I spoke of, the two Ideologies are in a standoff. When I was born 7 decades ago, though America was far from perfection, I still believe that she was one nation under God. There has always been a divide, but today we are experiencing a 'great divide'. Some believe that there exists an unbridgeable chasm. I also believe that there is a vast chasm, but I also believe that we have bridges to cross that chase.
