If I Were Your Love
I know your wife. She is my friend, but also I know too things behind your back she often says to disparage you. I see the way you gaze at her; the way you touch her face. You nickname her “My lovely queen,” but it’s a disgrace. She doesn’t see you as her “king.” She hates that you are thin, bald and unattractive too. Her discontent’s a sin! An ugly man you're not; in fact, I see right through her lies. You are so beautiful to me. I think you are a prize. I love the light you radiate. No pretense do I see. You treat all people with respect and say kind words to me. Not often do I see the type of love that you display after years of marriage and in such a romantic way. It makes me sad for you and me - the things I see and hear. For if you were my love, dear man, my everything you’d be. I’d hug you each time we parted, and I would be remiss if when you returned home, I would not greet you with a kiss. Oh, if someone looked at me with utter sweet delight and never frowned at things I did if I’d not done them right. You never say a cruel word to make your wife feel worse. Your wife confided that to me. It’s worthy of sweet verse. I cannot think of anything that she can complain of. I would more than thankful be oh, if I were your love.
