I started with the standard stuff, A poem or some prose. But inspiration left me dry, The floodgates all were closed. So next I tried my hand at rhyme, The nursery kind for tykes. But all that came was trite and lame, The kind that no kid likes. Then after that I tried to pen A couple lines free-verse, But that attempt completely failed; Results were even worse. Thus, at the frayed end of my rope I tried just one last time, A limerick, I thought, was in my grasp; Alas, it did not rhyme. So that's the end. I'll write no more. My inspiration's flown. I couldn't write to save my life. My creative mind is blown.
