The Other Side of War
Startled glances I left behind Of misery and minutes That seemed like hours, hours like days Days like months, years forgotten Stale and strewn for miles around Ink trails running across those skies Tell me is this any time to die? A lost child weeping on blood stained streets Born of war everything they dread How do you soften the horror That they carry through their lives? Walking like the living dead! The stars have fallen one by one Sporadic fires erupting everywhere Skies burning orange as it screams Wind whipped black ash blowing around Horrors buried in mud, snuff out silent sounds! Like a game of chess played with no rules By men in power with modern tools A dark mindset that grows and wrinkles Like burning paper in a blink of an eye, Here comes the bombs relentless tunes Playing like ceaseless drums! The war is a thief of cries in despair Stealing till there’s no one there! Bullet hardened hearts of steel Aghast, bewildered, exhausted and shattered So much sadness floating Like broken ice down those rivers All those lives washed out and scattered There is no time for you and me To say our last goodbyes Do you think that it really even mattered! 14.4.22
