Homeless
When you pass me on the street, are you appalled by what you can see? Can you even try and imagine the person that I used to be? Was I sitting too close, did you get upset because I wouldn’t budge? Did you see my dirty clothes and suddenly feel the need to judge? Can you guess where I slept last night? I had no pillow, not even a sheet. It was on a dirty slab of sidewalk, right down at the end of this street. Did you turn your head and giggle when I was talking to nothing but air? On Sunday while you were sitting in church, did you think of me or even care? What if I served our country and came back with a clouded view? Imagine that I lost my mind and maybe my leg, fighting for all of you. Would you feel any different if you realized any of the horrors that I have seen? There is a reason why I’m all alone and my clothes aren’t clean. What if you were hungry and I gave you my last piece of bread? Would you still walk by me with disgust and wish that I was dead? Think about what I have lost when you get home, and your day is completed. There is a reason why I’m out on this street and I look so defeated.
