Some Choose Not To Think Much
Some choose not to think much And this is understood, to watch the news unfold It is different for us all as we absorb the flickering images But for those of us that have breathed the air Smelt the tang, the dust, the blood The images on TV mean so much more Sad can be said of the moments when people For freedom fight, for democracy choose, regardless of win, or lose I admire these people, men or women who find the strength I have done such also, right or wrong, as have many, a common cause For me, us, the brotherhood, sisterhood, there is a common bond A personal undeclared relationship unbroken, understood And now to sit in a safe land, gazing at a peaceful lake, geese, swans, such a surreal paradox Even so a sliver from my heart is there, I wish my body too, but I am too old to join them And so too late for me, I have had my time, my voice, my actions, And so now, day by day I watch the war unfold day by long day Always linked by my former life, my former determination Saddened by the requirement of others needed again to fight My feelings, my soul by proxy it seems still connected One day will it end? So, I sit, watch, reflect, wish, hope, hold my loved one Challenges me to see reason, to win over the futility, the stupidity Of the unrequited war in Ukraine.
