Fireflies In the Park
There she sits upon that boulder day after sorrowful day, reading a book about fairytales and dreaming of maybe one day Her beautiful hair reaches down to her perch upon that seat, and there she reads of a prince that comes and his promises that he did keep She sits all alone in her long, withering, white dress that falls to her feet, and she desperately hopes that when she looks up it’s his face she will see The face of the one that enraptures her dreams when she rests her head at night, the face of the one that she has loved for always and will for all of time She remembers nights of lying in his arms, in the vicinity of this boulder that she now inhabits with her book of dreams, and she recalls catching fireflies in her hands underneath the moonlight’s beams She loved the way they would glow against the palm of her delicate hands, and she remembers the way he would whisper into her ear sweet nothings about his grandeur plans He brought her to this fairytale world, the one that she reads about every day, until the fireflies caught a glimpse of the sunlight and went back to their hiding place He too was swept away on the whispers of the wind, and there she was left all to herself to dream of what could have been So, she sits here until the stars come out to make their appearance known, to be seen, and she closes her book of fairytales and stops believing that they could be She awaits the arrival of the fireflies as they start to scatter and dance across the wispy grass, and there she abandons her book, left lying open for the next dreamer to look upon and hopefully find their love that lasts.
