The Traveler
The Traveler. He came from a distant land, To a place that shouldn't exist. The Old Ones, The sages of his home, All said he was being foolish to roam. Passion is a driving force Curiosity is its friend. How do we know what's out there, If we never send a traveler to see. Warnings ignored, he sailed away He traveled to many strange places, Those places they said don't exist, Places he found when he entered the mist. In the lands beyond beyond, There were sights that defied his eye, Animals with horns on their faces, Some with necks that reached to the sky, Lakes so huge, made his eyes open wide, So vast there seemed to be no other side. Sand, not like on a beach back at home, This was so vast he was frightened to roam. As he looked on with trepidation and awe, A strange looking creature he saw. It was all legs and neck and upon its back, Was a huge hump upon which a person sat. This was a ship of the desert, he found out, A camel by name with an ugly snout. It would spit in your face, so stay alert A very unpleasant fellow whose path he did skirt. Many things did he see on his journey by sea, Strange folk, strange tongues, What did they say? He needed to learn, if he desired to stay. Maybe another day as his journey beckoned him away. He soon realized as he crossed seas so wide, The earth wasn't flat, he'd reached the other side. What shape could it possibly be round? Needs to discover before being homeward bound. Home, where was that now? He asked himself, Folk afraid to even enter the mist, Maybe home was here, on this sun kissed beach, Folk back home said the fool won't be missed. © Dave Timperley 17/10/2021
