A Dark Forgiveness
When I was a little girl close to the sea In the darkness shone sparkling sapphire lights In my closet filled with fierce stuffed animals On my bed one on each side perfect protectors For there were two half-brothers 14 and 12 I was little and born into this half family The older had an illness in the brain dark deadly And with it images arose in a fearsone mind Strangers came into hallways voices whispering threats There were images my parents refused to know Chemistry cruelly evolved into a teenage mind And at two you were unable to fight The demons shouted and entered your mind too Destroy the creature arriving in the night Find a way to get mother’s attention to survive For as the next three years evolved A broken leg a deadly cup of baby aspirin Doctors and nurses started to wonder Such a nice couple they would think And so you family moved and you grew stronger A little girl learned from the Twilight Zone Thriller and Chiller during the night He was drawn to get rid of of this noisy baby brat Getting all the attention and cuddling But as I grew older and smarter I learned To keep away read books at the library Spent dinners with friends babysit joined the Scouts Years later after psychology, sociology, on and on Became depressed but I was determined to live Learned I was not alone and but could help Sat with others and heard their pain My brother was a danger to me as a child But he had no one to help him and I hoped for him then He grew older and worse rejected by parents "no one is sick" Finally in jail then in Alaska wild and exiled I hoped for him then As I hope for him now
