As Summer Evolves
As summer evolves, With heat and despair, The boy I once knew, Gazes up in the air, He's enamored by freedom, The choices supplied, By three months vacation, And magic implied, Some friends are around, Some travel with kin, While others do nothing, Or indulge in their sin, The boy is so busy, His camp starts next week, And planning some mischief, Ingenuity peaked, Filled with the moments, Of unfocused leisure, With nothing required, No scorecard to measure, Each summer he had, Was a world to be wrought, With actors and props, To play roles or be bought, Some friends came and went, Their bit parts were played, As memories, inklings, Were spent to be made, Others did linger, Matured and provided, The benchmark for living, As his life coincided, The summers, for him, Extended crusades, Creating amusements, That had to be made, Always a musing, The rose to the test, A comedic achievement, That proved to be best, Sometimes by fortune, Or demonic intention, A gag for the ages, With some not to mention, These summers connected, The boy's evolution, To filter the knowledge, Obtained by pollution, He and they played, In purest of motion, Lest feeling required, To share of their portion, And, now, the boy sits, No longer so lissome, And wishes for summers, And, boy, does he miss 'em, Now, there's no end, Sans holiday thunder, For the work that is done, Requires too much asunder, A year and another, Trickles anxiously by, Without remnants of sun, To reveal who and why, No playmates of sunshine, Or hilarious, heated, Encased in a season, That's remarkably treated, But, he cannot return, Only visit, convenience, Although now in control, Of his sunshine malfeasance, He can offer his young ones, Prepare anticipation, For they can assume, His old admiration, For this time of youth, You do all you know, Possibilities endless, And the sun is aglow.
