Because of their understanding (actually misunderstanding) the Bible account of creation as explained by Creationists. The imposition of 6 days of creation being literal 24 hours, truly misrepresents the truth of the Genesis account. Scientists now believe the universe had a beginning about 14,000,000 years ago. They claim that the Bible does not recognize this fact and so is incompatible with scientific discovery of truth. However, the very first expression of the creation account is found at Genesis 1:1 "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth". So this acknowledges there was a beginning! Nowhere does the Bible state 6,000 years ago the earth was created. It could very well be billions of years! I urge all truth seekers to do a thorough study of the scriptures, thereby coming to understand there is a loving Creator who cares about us.
