Amid Falling Leaves
Amid falling leaves, I stand motionless trying to understand if their falling off reflects agony of going into oblivion or joy of freedom from a bondage. But whatever it is, I feel amazed at this repetitive magic of nature; at the start of process of renewal, in both physical and metaphysical sense. But why do leaves change their colour, dazzling the entire environment, and adorning bright crimson hues, before they kiss dust to become dust? Is it to reduce the meloncholy of baring trees of their loss or is it to celebetate a joy of freedom; in anticipation of the oncoming spring, beyond a cold, grey winter, when new shoots will adorn trees again in green and other myriad hues? Whatever it may be, falling leaves inspire me to prepare for change from my current state of being, weather good or bad, for it will, sooner or later, desert me, and like the falling leaves ask me to brace up to face cold winds, and persevere, in hope of a colorful spring. This cycle of change will go on for ever till eternity, it's clear from the tune of the whistling breeze that helps the leaves to detach and fall off from their base. Believing that they shall be replaced by fresh young ones next season, that will crown the tree to glory again they let go and try to enjoy their freedom letting themselves carried with the wind. Yet they cannot help leaving behind them a sombre mood for those still attached; signalling to them to prepare for an inevitable fall soon, when their time arrives, to depart. 30.7.2020 Pick-A-Title, Vol 20 - Free Verse 3 - Poetry Contest Sponsor Edward Ibeh Title chosen: Amid falling leaves Received N/A
