Footsteps
FOOTSTEPS From cradle to grave, Such is life Where we follow certain steps, First refrain Emitting from mouth, A somewhat gargled sound Of ‘Ga- Ga, Mum- Mum or is it Da-Da,’ After which Came the dummy spitting bit, Followed quickly by Rejection of their mother’s milk, ‘Twas favoured now A solid feed of solids, Courtesy of good ole Macca’s Or Hungry Jacks, Then before you knew it Off like a rocket crawled Now as toddler Next spurt of growth Taking of uncertain steps But then in a wink You’re now a fully fledged ankle-biter With wonky feet, At that time before you knew Running here, Running there, Everywhere you ran, As you grew, Then grew, grew and grew some more Into becoming One of life’s little mysteries so, A teenager no doubt of the fact Still reliant of Mum and not so much on Dad, Rushing here or rushing there Rushing just ‘bout everywhere, For seeming subsequently out of nowhere, You didn’t walk For that was unbecoming you, You drove a car instead. For now a grown person you’d become Then as life became this journey Slowly, Ever so slowly forth This child of once before Enters Into their twilight zone, Stooped forward so Now with walking frame Or by stick, Is their means of mobility? So, twinkle, twinkle of little steps..............
