Masquerade
Masquerade I once attended a gathering… The splendour I beheld Beautiful gowns with sequins and brilliant colours and lace Men dressed to the nines in tuxedos with their hair slicked back. Elvis entered the room with his all his glory Super-heroes of every kind were poised, ready to save the day, and rid us of the evil that prevailed. A clown sat in one corner a certain sadness peeked through behind the smile that painted his face. As I looked at all the masks… I knew I had to leave I had to run from this place For you see, I did not know This was a masquerade I felt naked and revealed Why had no-one told me? Grace Daub May 4, 2020 *Revised from a high-school writing assignment many years ago I wrote this in a creative writing class in high school but lost the original copy. It has been tweaked slightly but the concept of not being who you are and hiding behind a mask was very real to me even at the age of 17. I still feel the same at almost 60.
