Mean In Green
I stood on the corner this morning Absorbing the fresh morning air listening attentively to the morning news That has everyone so upset and confused The morning sun is just peeping out with its orange and yellowish color Stirring lazy bodies out of bed pointing to the day that everyone dreads Monday morning stares blankly at the widow With its doom and gloom just recovering from the full moon A delightful glow is balancing her pride And the morning surprise was enough to keep her spirit alive It's the day that she has anticipated, to lead her astray And get the coward on her sides for that historical ride Everything in the making, lazy crowd, agile crowd, loving crowd And everything inside was enough to make her spirit shout Monday morning with its scented perfume penetrating the moon Filtered from well-dressed matured, and groom school girls Just the uniform that they wear, separate them from over grown women, who are hard to bend, it was very hard to tell the difference. The girls gallivant up and down the street With feisty smiles buried in their innocent faces While others laugh out loud responding to funny and furious joke And then the old man tumbling down the street With an outdated rhythm that filters around the broken fence And the office worker dragging his feet With a hangover that is very deep, It was obvious that he had little sleep And Monday morning blue was setting in And everything was full to the brim Monday morning with red lipstick all over her lips And courage in her cheeks that sinks very deep Something inside her made her smile as she hurry to take the moving bus on the other side of the road As I stood there listening to the news from my mobile phone I watched Monday morning crowd as they filter about Big trucks rolling up and down the street and people rocking to their own beat The taxi circling, round and round And I couldn’t tell where they are bound Then suddenly, a young man crossed the street and shouted “You look mean in green” I looked around to see who he was addressing But no one was wearing green, He was talking to two young girls dressed in blue The girls looked around and said, “a who him a talk to?” But he was too far away to listen to their feisty response Green with envy I can tell But mean in green, I just cannot tell Every time I go on the street corner There is always something that makes me wonder It is the things that people are always saying And the rhythm that is frequently playing It is not just people coming and going It is the deep expressions on their faces that shows Their innate complexity, The morning continue to swing with Its arms riding over my shoulder Little children lagging behind their parents Sucking lolly pops and dragging their feet And straining from the heavy bag on their backs Then suddenly a minibus stops by and unload a number of women The women came out in numbers and walked boldly Around the town with spirit riding high and courage mounting up to the sky Their heart looked bold as a lion and their faith as strong as a military man Monday morning kept its balance And no one could pull her down Green is mean so you better come clean
